a few words about the institution
Government College of Fine Arts, Thrissur is one of the premier centers of fine art education in Kerala, which celebrates the Centenary this year. Affiliated to the University of Calicut in 1997, this institution has entered into a new phase of its development; it’s gathering a new momentum to provide young talents of the state with quality training and infrastructure facilities in the stream of fine arts.
Many industrious individuals who have established themselves later in life have been trained in this institution in their youth. Former Chief Minister and veteran politician Sri. K. Karunakaran was a student of this institute before dedicating his life for politics. Artist Namboothiri had learnt art here before going to Madras School of Art. Eminent artist and Former Municipal Chairman of Thrissur, Sri. V. Sankaramenon, was the superintendent of this institution. Noted film makers like Sri. P.N. Menon, Sri. Bharathan, Sri. Ambili and actor Sree Raman were once the students of this institution.
